French things 2 . . .

When I think about French fashion, well put together ladies wandering around smoking and sitting outside cafes immediately comes to mind. Almost definitely a cliché but you have to admit that they know how to dress!!
For example:

12, 3,4

Ok I know that Alexa Chung is British (whoop!!) but she could be French with those muted colours and cute collar.
Now where are my Ballet flats and lady like skirt?

French things. . .

This time next week I will be with some of my nearest and dearest in Paris :) I am very excited, I haven't been since I was a kid and we are going for 5 days, I am imagining walking around looking cool and drinking coffee in Cafes and window shopping and pretending to be aloof and mysterious!! Not that we will manage it of course as I am one of the most non mysterious people there is!
In honour of our trip I thought I would do a post on something French. . . . We Were Evergreen.

My brother saw them at the great escape festival a few weeks ago and took some lovely photos, see them here.
I think they are so cute, and love this song especially :)

Some are red some are blue. . .

Roses are one of the most timeless flowers in the world and every year in spring I go around saying frequently how much I love them, and sticking my nose in as many as possible.
After this Fieldguided post, of the flowers of London she saw when she was over here visiting, it made me realise how many beautiful types of roses there were around my area. So after work on friday I dawdled my way home with my trusty phone snapping photos of some.

And did you know that every kind of rose means something?! So you are not just giving someone a pretty smelling thing but you are also telling them something. For example:
Red - Love, Romance, Beauty, Passion, I love you; Desire, Courage; Respect

White- Purity, Youth, Pure Love, Virginal, Innocence and purity, I am worthy of you, You're heavenly

Pink - Happiness, Appreciation, Thankfulness, Grace, Gentle Love, Please believe me

Dark Pink - Gratitude, Thank You

Yellow - Joy, Gladness, Friendship, Delight, Platonic Love, Jealousy, Freedom

Yellow with Red Tip - Falling in Love

Orange - Fascination, Desire, Passion, Enthusiasm

Red and White - Two colors; Passionate Purity, Unity

Peach - Sincerity, Gratitude, Appreciation, Modesty, Admiration, Sympathy

Lavender - Love at first sight, Enchantment

Black - Death, Farewell

Blue - Impossible, Unattainable, Mystery

Red Rosebud - Symbol of Purity and Loveliness

White Rosebud - Girlhood, Youth

Thornless Rose - "Love at First Sight"

So the next time you give someone roses make sure you are not saying the wrong thing!

King Of Cool

There is something about Steve. . . . .

Whether he's riding around on a bike jumping over borders or planning a bank robbery in a dapper suit Steve Mcqueen really is the King of cool.

Especially in The Thomas Crown Affair.

I wasn't feeling so good today ( Stupid spring cold ) so I decided to put this on, made me feel a lot better :) The chemistry is amazing between these two and the outfits Faye Dunaway wears makes me want to wander around in a short flimsy dress with fake eyelashes and a cocktail! Plus would love to play chess as well as her. . . .its on the to do list for this year, Learn how to win at chess. But anyway Steve Mcqueen, what a legend.

Vintage Jewellery Classes

I had my first Vintage Jewellery making class a few weeks ago, which I enjoyed IMMENSELY! I unfortunetly don't have any photos due to my running around  having fun and helping some lovely lady's make pretty things, but I promise to be better in the future! Its such a fun class, and also you go away with a beautiful re-worked vintage item that you made yourself and can carry on its history :)
I Made It Myself Are holding two more classes over the next few months in Chiswick, West London, so have a look and we would love to see you if you can make any of them!!

Jewellery Making

Make sure you have a look at the website as they have some awesome contempory craft classes! I am thinking of signing myself up for the Tea Cup Candle class :)

Happy Music

You know those days when you just feel. .. . . . . well Bleugh I suppose is the right word. A bit sad and not 100%. Today has been one of those days, but just at the right moment I found this:

Alex Winston, a girl with some happy friends singing their little socks off in Paris.

The Take Away Shows always deliver. . .  .when you have a spare few hours make sure you dig into the treasure trove and see what you come out with.
Happy Music :)

Bank Holiday Part 2

I Love Tea. There really is no finer drink in all the world. When you are happy or sad tea is with you through it all. . .  . . . so imagine my excitement when I found a delightful Tea shop right near me?! I have lived in West London for over 2 years now and I had never seen this place before!

Ingenious Idea!

My Tea was a beauty. Cant remember exactly what flavour, but it had rose in it, pretty rosebuds.
I love roses almost as much as I love tea, at the moment they are flowering all over the place and I cant help but stop whenever I pass a particularly lovely rose bush and take a smell. It always amazes me the variety of colours you see, but I think my favourite is the crimson red. And on our way home from aforementioned tea shop was a fine example.

Bank holiday Frivolitys

I Love Bank Holidays!! There is no doubt about it, and as a British citizen we get a fair few!! Thanks to good old Kate and Wills we had 2 back to back 4 day weekends, and you cant have that without some fun. Namely:

Trying to be 'Cultured'. . . .ie wandering around nodding and going 'umm'

Seeing friends after a long separation :)

Trips into London

I feel a little bit philosophical when I look at these photos. . . . there really is nothing better than being with friends enjoying the great outdoors. Sorry that's enough now I promise.
The photography exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery was really good, Hoppe has some amazing shots of normal people in the street, he often went out with a camera hidden in his jacket so that he could capture people more informally. I definitely recommend if you are in London at any point this month!
