Sunday

I am very sleepy this afternoon, and am relaxing on my bed with a cup of tea and a delicious brownie!!
One of the best things about living in London is the multitude of diverse cultures. Around west London where I live there are big Indian comunitys. One of my close friends is Indian and is going back home next week, so last night we went Bollywood dancing for her leaving party :) I wish I had photos because it was so funny, we went to a place called Masti which was full of Indian family's having a good old time dancing away, and then us, a group with 7 white people, the only ones in the whole place!   I hope we didn't embarrass them too much with our dancing (!!) but I love it, it has such a happy upbeat tempo, and this is about the 3rd time I have been and I actually am starting to lean the words and dance moves to some songs now!
So in honour of my friend who is leaving to go back home I wanted to inject some bollywood into Musical Sundays with Jai Ho, the one song they didnt play last night much to our disappointment!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend :)

The Hour for Glorious clothes

You know how most people take there fashion inspiration from celebrity's or the catwalk. . . . not me, I get most of my inspiration from particular lady's on the big and small screen, fictional characters often.
Romola Garai is one such lady. I've loved her ever since I capture the castle, which if you haven't seen you must at some point over this winter, its delightful. This past year though she has been in not one but TWO things that have filled me with clothes envy: The Hour and Glorious.

The Hour, set in a 50's TV studio, is all about wiggle dresses, swing jackets and classy accessories. And an awesome story line and dialogue as well obviously! I also have a massive crush on Ben Winshaw in this as well :) So good news all round, I really want to get this on DVD soon.

Glorious is a bit earlier in fashion history being set just before the war, the story is intruging and very atmospheric. Romola's outfits are gorgeous - suits, tea dresses, and berets. I want to find the perfect silver brooch to go in my beret. I really am trying to wear more hats this winter and this is perfect for those lazy bad hair days.

Do you have any favourite Tv shows or films that you watch for the clothes?

Happy Thursday everyone :)

Brighton, Shakespeare and fish and chips

On a beautiful Saturday some friends and I headed to the seaside town of Brighton for some shopping and culture in the form of Henry V. I cant believe what nice weather we had as the fog and damp of November has hit London this week. I had never been to Brighton before but I tell you what I will be going quite frequently from now on. Full of cool people, amazing vintage shops and some good fish and chips, what more could you want? Maybe a bit more moolah to spend but apart from that it was a awesome day.

Probably good job I am a bit broke at the moment as I could have bought quite a lot in Snoopers Paradise, a absolutely mahooosive warehouse of amazing old things, nick nacks and clothes. I will be back though, so watch out brighton!

My lovely brother looking quite dapper :)

My friend Julia and I enjoying the sunshine

Our cool new Shakespeare friends played out a mighty Henry the V for us, first time I have seen one of his history plays as well, Saturday of firsts for me! I was soooooooo impressed by the production, performed by a only male theater company called Propeller. They brought a really vibrant feel to it, winding in not only The Clash but also Irish drinking songs during the intermission. They are performing in Milton Keanes now for a few weeks so if you have a chance I really recommend it :)

Sewing sos

Want this machine!!!!

I for a little while (with the help of my lovely Nanna!) have been trying to learn how to sew. . . . .In my mind are lovely dresses and capes ready to be made, often a little over ambitious! I go into the fabric shops and can spend hours felling, looking and even smelling, but often leave without buying anything, a little overwhelmed. I made my first proper dress
I have been able to find a wealth of help over the beloved internet:)

My pattern with my first dress

Other inspirational Blogs: CaseyCrochetie and Gertie

I have started a Pinterest. . . . .why have I never done this before??? No more will I have hundred of folders clogging up my bookmarks, now I have the perfect online scrapbook to store all my sewing inspiration.

Have you taught yourself to sew? what were your best tips?

Happy Friday!!

Monday

Hi there everyone, a day late here is my Musical inspiration for today:

For some unbeknown reason I am feeling a little fragile today so I needed something to sooth my soul. This song always reminds me of a dear friend of mine who can play it beautifully. I really love it, check out old Ludovico Einaudi , his music is just the right thing for a Monday morning.

Do you have any particular music that you listen to when you are feeling a bit rough?

Downton

Downton I miss you.
Here in the uk the second series has just finished and we are going to have to wait till Christmas for our next fix. I am not going to give any spoilers, but rather celebrate the fashion. I have a bit of an obsession at the moment with clothes from the early 1900's , how much fun must the costume designer have with all the beautiful detailing, especially in the evening gowns.

I really loved Ediths working outfits this series, I would like a pair of those boots and the mac please:)

Its so lovely to see clothes that are beautifully made and not covering only a tiny part of your body! Sorry to sound like a prude but seeing these clothes reminded me that you don't have to be immodest to look gorgeous. The attention to detail make them, I think this winter I am going to try and channel some of Downton in my own way = hats, lace and bead detailing plus the colours :)
Seriously I was born in the wrong era!

Happy friday everyone!!!
